Monthly Plant Medicine Circles

“When we truly get to know a plant, it becomes so much more than a remedy – it becomes a friend, a teacher and an ally.”

These plant medicine circles began from a simple question I asked myself many years ago: What if I spent an entire month getting to know just one plant?

As a medical herbalist, I realised that although we learn the actions, energetics and uses of hundreds of plants, there is something profoundly different about slowing down and building a relationship with a single plant. Rather than simply knowing that a herb is warming or cooling, or useful for a particular condition, I wanted to understand each plant as a living being with its own unique gifts and wisdom.

That desire became these monthly Plant Medicine Circles, and over the years they have evolved into something far more beautiful than I ever imagined.

Each month we gather together in an intimate circle and focus on one special plant. I don’t choose the plant with my head, I allow the plants to guide me, trusting that the one that comes forward is the one we are all meant to meet.

We begin with a beautiful tea ceremony. The identity of the plant usually remains a mystery until afterwards, allowing everyone to experience it without expectation. With our eyes closed, we explore the tea through our senses, its aroma, flavour, texture and the feelings it awakens within us. We notice how our bodies respond, what emotions arise and what the plant begins to communicate.

Only then do I introduce the plant.

Together we discover how it supports the body, mind and soul. We explore its traditional herbal uses, how to recognise it in nature, when it grows, and the many ways it can become part of our lives.

One of the most treasured parts of each workshop is our guided meditation and plant journey. This is an opportunity to meet the spirit of the plant, developing your own personal relationship and receive whatever wisdom or healing it wishes to share. These experiences are often deeply moving and continue to unfold long after the workshop has finished.

For me, these workshops are about so much more than learning how herbal medicine can help us physically. They are about remembering that we are part of nature.

They invite us to slow down, open our hearts and rediscover the intelligence, love and generosity of the plant kingdom. As relationships with the plants deepen, many people find they begin to see the natural world with new eyes, feeling more connected, grounded and supported in everyday life.

One of my greatest joys is introducing people to a plant for the very first time. It feels rather like introducing two friends who are destined to know one another. From that moment on, the relationship belongs to you. You begin to recognise the plant when you meet it in the wild, understand its gifts and develop a friendship that can continue to grow for years to come.

The workshops take place once a month in Market Harborough at the beautiful Wistowsill Plants. Surrounded by thriving plants, we gather in a peaceful upstairs space where the gentle scent of the plants drifts through the room, creating the perfect setting for reflection, connection and learning.

Our circles are intentionally small and intimate, allowing everyone to feel welcome, supported and deeply connected throughout the experience.

Whether you are completely new to herbs or have worked with plants for many years, these workshops / circles offer a unique opportunity to experience the healing power of plants in a way that reaches far beyond books and botanical names.

Come and meet a new plant friend. You may discover that they have been waiting to meet you too.
